Local man relieved to learn mysterious obstruction in upper field of vision caused not by degenerative eye disease, but by two increasingly aggressive shrubs growing directly above his face
A 41-year-old local man who had spent several increasingly concerned weeks wondering whether he was beginning to lose his eyesight announced Monday that the mysterious dark objects creeping into the upper portion of his field of vision were not cataracts, glaucoma, retinal damage, or evidence that the warranties on his major sensory organs had begun expiring.
They were his eyebrows.
Specifically, several eyebrow hairs that had apparently spent the first four decades of his life behaving like ordinary eyebrow hairs before suddenly deciding to grow long enough to participate in his vision.
“I kept noticing these blurry things at the top of my eyesight,” the man explained. “At first I thought maybe I needed new glasses. Then I started wondering if something was actually wrong with my eyes.”
The man reportedly became increasingly concerned as the obstruction persisted, particularly when bright light revealed several strange, dark streaks hovering just above his normal field of vision.
After contemplating everything from worsening eyesight to an eventual appointment with an eye doctor, the man finally stood approximately three inches from a bathroom mirror and discovered that his eyeballs were functioning perfectly.
His eyebrows had simply gotten fucking huge.
“It was actually a tremendous relief for about four seconds,” he said. “Then I realized I now have eyebrows long enough to see.”
According to sources close to the man’s bathroom sink, the problem was immediately corrected with a small grooming trimmer, restoring nearly his entire upper field of vision and revealing an area of the ceiling he had not realized he’d been missing.
The celebration was short-lived.
Within days, several of the hairs reportedly began advancing south again.
“That’s when I understood this wasn’t a repair,” the man said quietly. “This was maintenance.”
Another Household Chore Somehow Added To His Face
Experts say the incident represents an important milestone in middle age, when seemingly ordinary body parts begin requiring routine maintenance despite having operated flawlessly without intervention since birth.
The man, who previously believed eyebrow trimming was something performed occasionally by particularly well-groomed people in salons, now reportedly keeps a trimmer nearby because failure to perform weekly brush clearance may result in restricted visibility.
“I have things in my house that require less maintenance than my eyebrows,” he said. “I’ve got appliances where the manual says inspect annually. Apparently my fucking forehead is every seven days.”
The discovery comes after several years of other troubling developments involving hair abandoning its traditional jurisdiction.
Hair once expected to grow vigorously from the top of the head has reportedly become less enthusiastic about doing so, while hair in previously insignificant locations has entered what observers describe as an unprecedented economic boom.
Ear hair is up.
Nose hair is up.
Eyebrows are posting record quarterly growth.
Meanwhile, the scalp continues announcing layoffs.
“This is not how I understood the arrangement,” the man said. “I’ve got one department begging for personnel while everybody else is hiring like crazy.”
Grooming Officials Recommend Controlled Burns
Family members reportedly confirmed that the brows had been getting progressively longer but assumed the man knew.
He did not.
“I thought eyebrows just stopped,” he said. “They reached eyebrow length and everybody agreed that was enough. Nobody tells you that someday one of them is going to make a run for your cheek.”
Several particularly ambitious hairs were reportedly discovered to be significantly longer than neighboring hairs and capable of hanging downward when not properly managed.
At least one had begun curling.
Authorities declined to speculate on its ultimate intentions.
The man has since implemented what he calls a “preventative forestry program,” involving weekly inspection, trimming, and removal of any eyebrow hair that appears capable of entering federally regulated airspace.
Doctors Confirm Eyes Unfortunately Fine
Despite initial fears, the man said discovering the true source of the problem brought substantial peace of mind.
His sight wasn’t deteriorating.
Nothing terrible was happening inside his eyes.
His face was simply getting old in increasingly creative ways.
“It was fantastic news medically,” he said. “Psychologically, I’m not sure.”
Sources confirmed the man’s vision has now been completely restored, provided he continues adhering to a strict seven-day eyebrow maintenance schedule normally associated with ornamental hedges and municipal rights-of-way.
He has also begun checking his ears twice a week.
“Apparently we’re watching everything now,” he said.
At press time, the man was standing in front of the bathroom mirror holding a pair of tweezers and staring in disbelief at a single two-inch hair growing out of a location on his shoulder where absolutely no hair had ever been requested.
